The 3rd Annual Amazing Beaches of 59 Race

THE RACE

The Amazing Beaches of 59 Race is a competition based on the TV series The Amazing Race. In our local, not televised, non-profit version of this event, teams of four Race Around the Beaches of 59 area on the Eastern Shore of Lake Winnipeg. The race will involve multiple communities and is an opportunity to Explore our beautiful region.

Teams are tasked to solve clues, navigate themselves in each areas, interact with locals, perform physical and mental challenges, and travel by canoe, kayak, bike, foot, car, and other modes of transport. Each team must pass through at each of the 15+ designated Pit Stops to receive their next clue card. The first team to arrive at the Finish Line wins the team grand prize and FREE entry into next year’s race. The race is designed to test the strength, endurance, intelligence, and above all, be fun all participants.

LOCATION: This year’s race is on Saturday, August 10, 2024, and will start in Gull Lake at Noon and end at Hillside Beach (~3 PM to 5 PM). Only the race organizers know where the race goes inbetween.  Registered teams will be required to check-in on-site and get their team photo taken at 11:30 AM on the day of the race. Teams pick a Team Name and can dress in costumes or a theme on Race Day!

Attempt to be the fastest team to reach all stops before the 5 hour cut-off time.  Make it to the finish line where we will provide each participant with a Race t-shirt, food and beverages. Prizes will be distributed to the winning teams, fastest and best costumes.

FEE

Registration is online and opens on June 5, at 9 AM. All previous races have been sold out. Register early to avoid disappointment. Ambassadors of Beaches of 59 can register one day early.

RACE FEE: $30 per person = $120 per team, registration is done per team not per person.

Teams of four racers only! Some stops require each of the four team members to complete a separate challenge. Therefore we are not able to accommodate teams of any other number of people.

EQUIPMENT

  • Teams will require one vehicle that has seatbelts for all four team members. No additional drivers or extra people are allowed in the vehicle. At registration teams will receive a car signage to be affixed to the front and rear windows and will act as parking passes or access passes to each area in the race.

  • Phones can be used at some points in the race to assist in navigation, however, some challenges require the participants to put their phones away. It is up to you to protect your phone from water emersion or damage during the race.

  • Teams may find it useful to bring pens and paper.

  • Dress for the weather and make sure to have good running shoes.

  • Bring water and snacks in your car to replenish yourself between stops!

  • Bikes, helmets, kayaks, canoes, lifejackets, etc. will be provided. You are responsible for yourself on the roads, trails & waterways. You MUST WEAR AT ALL TIMES an approved bike helmet while biking. lifejacket when in a paddled watercraft, and be courteous and respectful on the trails.

  • The driver must possess a valid drivers license, the vehicle must have valid insurance, and the driver must obey all speed limits and traffic laws. Unsafe vehicle usage may result in disqualification for the entire team.

ATHELETIC ABILITY

The Amazing Beaches of 59 Race will take between 3 to 5 hours to complete, depending on your rate of travel and decision making. This race is an intermediate level race and aims at combining athleticism and fun. Many of our racers are not very sports oriented, however, they really enjoy themselves at our race! The 2023 race WILL include running/trekking and driving in a vehicle, and MAY include biking, and paddling (canoes or kayaks), from point to point. Last years participants reported covering 10 km in the on foot parts of the race. You don't have to run, as long as you are enjoying yourself, it doesn't matter if you run, walk, or take a break. We will have a 5 hour cut-off time so that all teams are present for the finale.

AGE MINIMUMS: Each team member must be at minimum 13 years old by the day of the race in order to participate without an adult (18+ years of age) on their team. One licensed driver (minimum age 16 years old) per team. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult (18+ years of age) on their team. We ask that all young racers be a minimum of 10 years old by race day to participate in the Amazing Beaches of 59 Race experience.

FINE PRINT

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • No refunds available.

  • If you cannot make the race, you can sell or give your spot to another racer as all spots are transferable.

  • This is a rain or shine event. The race will go on unless hazardous conditions (fires, floods, natural disasters, etc.) preclude a safe race environment. In the event the Race is cancelled for a reason outside our control, an alternative race date will be set within 1 year. Refunds will only be provided if the event is not rescheduled within the year.

LIABILITY WAIVER

Each participant or their legal guardian will be required to fill in the online liability and photo/video release waiver in order to participate.
